Hello, my name is Hanna Humeniuk and I’m from Ukraine. I came to Switzerland a couple of days ago. I came from the country where there is war. My story is very, very emotional. Nobody thought that war would come to Ukraine—not the Ukrainians either. On the first day, when the war started, we didn’t realize how things would be. And when they started to bomb Kyiv, I thought that I had to leave the country and save works of art. My mother, Antonina Denisiuc, is an artist, and culture is very important for our future. So artworks are important to us, because they are our future, the future of our generation. When we got to the railway station, there were no trains. Everything was booked out for several days. And suddenly a train came from Poland. No one knew that the train was going to come. It was actually like a miracle. So we boarded the train—I was with my mother, with the works of art. I had only one pair of shoes, one pair of trousers, a couple things, some documents, and works of art. We got in the train, and at the last moment my mother said to me, “I’m going to get off the train because I can’t leave my son here in Ukraine.” Remembering this now is very emotional for me, but … I’m glad that I’m here. And thanks to Stephan Renner and Carolin Geist, I’m here in Switzerland and can help Ukrainian art and Ukrainian artists. Because cooperation in these hard times is very, very important for us. And here you see some works of art by my mother. So, I am happy that we can organize something for a very good cause. And now you can imagine that in this aggressive situation, a good thousand talented artists are staying in Ukraine, and a hundred thousand works of art are there. … And thanks to our friends in Switzerland we are now going to establish a foundation for the goal of supporting Ukrainian artists. This is happening thanks to events.com and Chateau Papillon des Arts St. Moritz. We will support Ukrainian art and we’ll do the maximum. Because our future depends on it, the future of our world. And thanks a lot for joining us and being with Ukraine. Slava Ukrainia! Glory to Ukraine
